General Duties:
The City of Bloomington is now accepting applications for full-time Civilian Police and Fire Dispatchers. Dispatchers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in a 24 hour facility.  They use a computer-aided dispatch system to answer and assign emergency and non-emergency calls for Police and Fire and gather and relay critical information to law enforcement officers in accordance with established procedures.  Dispatchers monitor multiple complex public safety radio frequencies and operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and computer systems.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Excellent oral, listening and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely
  • Ability to function effectively and courteously under pressure
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a dispatch environment and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
