Aurora, CO, (pop. 381,000) is Colorado's third largest city, the east-side anchor of a major Metropolitan Area.  Aurora incorporated initially as the town of Fletcher in 1891, was renamed Aurora in 1907, officially incorporated as the City of Aurora in 1928, and adopted its home rule charter in 1961. This thriving municipality has evolved from a mid-sized suburb to a large city, with a FY 2019 GF budget of $362.7 million, supporting 3,164 FTEs.

The eleven members of the City Council include the mayor, six ward members, and four at-large members, all of whom serve staggered, four-year terms.  The City Council seeks an experienced, savvy municipal attorney, unafraid of this jurisdiction's complex legal issues and the challenges inherent in advising such a large elected body, where differing points of view and robust debate are expected.  The City Attorney supervises 59 FTEs in the Civil and Criminal Justice Divisions, and a budget of $9.3 million. 

The position requires demonstrated excellent legal skills and a minimum of seven to ten years of experience as a practicing attorney, the majority of which were spent in local government. Managerial experience as an attorney is required. A JD from an accredited law school is required. A candidate licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado, who is active and in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court is strongly preferred. Comprehensive benefits.
