Plumstead Township is seeking applications for the position of Police Chief.  Plumstead Township, with a population that exceeds 12,000 residents, is a vibrant, and progressive municipality working within the bounds of available resources while providing the best quality of life for a growing community. The township is made up of 28 square miles and is in Bucks County.  Philadelphia is 40 miles south and approximately 35 minutes away.  New York City is 80 miles north and approximately an hour and a half driving distance.  The Police Department is a full-service organization with an approved compliment of 16 sworn officers and 3 civilian employees. The annual budget for the department is in excess of $3.4 million.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of integrity, strong leadership, and the management, community outreach, and interpersonal skills to drive the Police Department forward along the path of progressive police service delivery. It is important that the candidate be able to attain the trust of the community by understanding the needs of residents and being responsive and to those needs.  Candidates will have served at least 5 or more years in a command/supervisory position in a law enforcement agency. A Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Police Administration, Public Administration, or related field is preferred. In addition, ideal candidates will be graduates of an advanced training course such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Southern Police Institute, or other recognized and equivalent law enforcement training. A combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in police department operations and practices including planning, budgeting, labor relations, timely policing technology, public administration, personnel administration and management, and knowledge of current law. The ability to work cooperatively with the five (5) member Board of Supervisors, municipal administration, civic leaders and citizens of all races and ethnicities, is required. Salary for the position will be based on experience and qualifications.  The successful candidate will have the Pennsylvania Act 120 certification; or be able to attain it, must pass a physical and psychological examination and a drug screening.  A thorough background review will be conducted.

Minimum starting salary for the position is listed as $115,000 with full compensation benefits.  The Chief will be required to reside within 25 square miles of the Township.  Interested applicants should forward a cover letter and resume that includes education, experience, work history, and accomplishments.
