We are looking for

Qualified applicants will be vetted through written testing, interviews, credit and background checks, a polygraph test, and physical and psychological screenings. Once selected, recruits will attend a 22-week law enforcement academy that combines classroom learning with physical fitness and skills training in driving, defensive tactics, arrest control, firearms and much more. It will culminate with the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) exam.
Those who successfully complete this process will join one of Colorado's oldest and largest sheriff's offices to help make Jefferson County a safe place for all people to live, learn, work, and play.

Will obtain a general knowledge of modern law enforcement practices, procedures and investigation techniques, state, county and federal laws concerning civil and criminal processes, the content and purpose of legal papers and practices involved in serving them, the principles and practices of criminal investigation, local laws, ordinances and state statutes about the commitment, confinement and release of prisoners. Will develop skills in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment. Will develop the ability to apply interpretation of laws to specific situations; present court testimony effectively and exercise sound judgment in emergency and routine situations to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action.
