Our Office of 20 employees is led by the County Counsel, two Chief Deputies, and our Legal Office Manager. One of our Chief Deputies is retiring after 37 years of practice, creating a rare opening on our leadership team. We are looking for an experienced attorney with expertise in government law who will be a leader in sustaining our office culture of positivity, accountability, and mutual respect.
The Chief Deputy directly supervises four to six attorneys who work on public works, contracting, code enforcement, and other complex legal matters. The Chief Deputy also collaborates with the County Counsel and other managers to oversee the Office and outside counsel. Our goal is to have a period of overlap in which our retiring Chief Deputy can assist the new Chief Deputy in becoming acquainted with the County, our Office, and our clients.
Top candidates will have a broad range of legal skills, with significant experience in representing public entities in complex transactions and other matters involving significant and sensitive issues of public policy and regulation. Supervisory experience in a public law office or comparable setting is highly desirable.

2. Candidates must complete the supplemental questions in their entirety and submit one or more writing samples. Candidates may also attach a cover letter (to the attention of Jeffrey Brax, County Counsel), a resume, references, and law school transcript.
3. Applications will be reviewed and scored during the week of August 26, 2019. The most qualified applicants will be invited for an oral panel interview.
4. Initial interviews are scheduled for September 3 and 4, 2019. References and law school transcripts should be submitted at the interview, if not before.
