CHIEF OF POLICE, City of Clio, Genesee County, Michigan (2,500) seeks an experienced leader for the position of Chief of Police to administer all police functions to include the protection of life and property, enforcement of local ordinances and state laws, and community relations under the general direction of the City Administrator. Work involves budgeting, writing reports, handling public and media relations, managing equipment, and establishing policies, procedures and general orders.

This is a “working Chief” position. The successful candidate might expect to work the occasional shift (i.e. patrol) and respond to calls, as may be necessary from time to time to maintain operations of the City’s Police Department. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
MCOLES certification, minimum of 10-years of law enforcement experience with 2-years serving in a command position. 4-year degree in Criminal Justice/Public Administration/ Business Administration or related field with staff and command school or other law enforcement executive leadership course of studies strongly preferred.

PROCESS:  
Finalist will be subject to a complete criminal history background check, driving record check, oral interview process, written and oral psychological profile exam, medical exam and drug screen.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: 
The Police Department operates 24/7 with 3 full-time sworn officers supplemented by part-time sworn officers with an operating budget approximating $550,000.

$55,000 starting salary with benefits afforded all other full-time employees of the City of Clio to include, but not limited to, medical insurance, life insurance and a 10% employer contribution to a MERS Defined Contribution Retirement Plan.
